Koprol has 900 members: Here’s the Top 5

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

We’re still in private beta. Invitations are limited. There are no advertising. Yet the number of beta testers has been increasing at a steady rate. As of today we have exactly 900 members.

900 members

Lots of them has been using Koprol quite regularly, while some are more active than others. Reeeally active. Here are the top 5 and our take on them.

5. raeku Raeku

Rhesya Agustine is in the top 5 for most comments made and comments received. Koprolling mostly from Lippo Village, she can make any post into a long interesting thread, be it about a martabak or a meeting with a girlfriend.

4. ram Ram

Rama Mamuaya is one of the top 5 posters, commenters, commented and photo uploaders. This is a big honor because actually he’s a respected blogger. He’s one of the first people to test Koprol, the first ever to blog about Koprol, and he has the most Koprol invitation. No wonder people mistakenly take him as part of Koprol (we don’t mind).

3. vina Vina

Koprolling mostly from Pejompongan, Adhytia Eka Martha Viana still finds the time to be the 2nd person to make the most posts and comments, even when busy with her Tugas Akhir (final assignment). Good luck, Vina!

2. della Delladienw Dienw

Best photos! Della Witz & Dien Wong are both in the top 5 most photo uploaded, while Della is also one of the top reviewers and commenters. We’re glad they came to support us at FreSh. We call them Koprol’s ‘best couple’ because on top of being very active, they use Koprol the way we envision it to be - reporting their every movements within the city and sharing photos and tips on food & shopping.

1. sharon Sharon

Alderina Gracia easily takes our top spot since she is number 1 with the most posts, most comments made, and most comments received! She tops all 900 members despite also active on other microblogs and is actually in Sidoarjo, a city Koprol has not fully supported. She is also very supportive of us up to the point of sometimes defending us from friendly criticism and even brought krupuk (crackers) for the Koprol devteam.

There you have it. Of course, outside of these people, all 900 members have been remarkably helpful. We thank you for your support and for building this community.

Hopefully after we open to public, people will start to realize the strength of our community. That we are not just another microblog for techies, but actually a friendly network of city dwellers and mall hoppers who love to eat, shop and just have fun while rolling around town.

Introducing Koprol at FreSh

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

The first official introduction to Koprol took place at a gathering of Jakarta’s creative industry professionals. The press and blogs may have interviewed us, but it is at this FreSh event on March 19, 2009, at fX Lifestyle X’nter that we presented our project for the first time. We also shared some insights to how we got to this point and plans for the future.

Here are the slides used to explain Koprol and share our stories:

We were very glad that about 100 tech & media enthusiasts were willing to wait so late for our turn to present Koprol. They gave lots of questions and suggestions. The host said that it was their biggest attendance yet.

Did someone mention your name?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Have you ever felt someone is talking about you? Well now you’ll know, as long as they put “@” before your username.

Last night we rolled out new features to make conversations in the stream easier to follow. Now you can keep track of posts that you’ve commented (click the ‘Commented‘ tab), or find posts -as well as comments in posts- that mentioned your name (click the ‘Mentioned‘ tab). In addition, in each of those stream you can click ‘Unread‘ to just view the posts with comments that you haven’t seen.

New tabs: Commented & Mentioned

Take note that for people to find mentions, you should put “@” right before their username. For instance, typing @Sharon would create a link to Sharon’s profile, and Sharon would be able to find that post in her ‘Mentioned’ tab.

Some comments we got last night:

  • anakcerdas: wah keren, ada tab ‘commented’ dan ‘mentioned’ plus comment yg belum dibaca pake bold :D
  • Sharon: KEYENNNN :D KEYENNNN…. mentioned and commentednya KEYENNNN :D dor dev team @koprol thank you :D
  • ram: the new koprol … sweet! :D
  • freudian83: koprol makin keren, ada notification untuk unread comments and mentions sekarang! sippp!
  • bernard: guys, like the new features! commented and mentioned is awesome! have a pleasant weekend everyone

Please report if you find any bugs, and remember, although we have a powerful conversation tool, it’s still all about location and you’ll see more updates on that soon.

Koran Tempo: Yuk, Kita Koprol

Koran Tempo

Dimas from Koran Tempo wrote:

The newspaper article also shared some insights:

Pembuatan Koprol digodok sejak setahun lalu, tapi baru dikembangkan beberapa bulan terakhir. Karena masih percobaan, Koprol diluncurkan diam-diam alias masih dirahasiakan. Namun, rahasia itu telanjur bocor hingga memiliki sekitar 300-an orang anggota. “Kami senang sekali disambut baik.”

Pihaknya masih mengembangkan sejumlah fitur yang akan ditambahkan di Koprol, misalnya integrasi dengan peta, integrasi dengan Facebook (Facebook Connect), dan Blackberry App untuk para pengguna Blackberry.

Facebook redesign

Stream of posts with thumbnails in the middle column? Vertically stacked stream filters on the left column? We love the structural layout of Facebook’s upcoming homepage, and this is why…

Full Ajax!

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

We’ve been meaning to show off our swagger in writing our website in full ajax a la Gmail and guess what? We just did!

Took quite a while to understand the basic idea of jQuery history and figure out workaround for IE7 (Now we know why this browser is least loved by web developers :) )
